Steve Wells

Steve Wells started absorbing music while growing up in beautiful downtown Colfax, Louisiana.  His dad, Sam Wells, was the District Attorney in Grant and Winn Parishes for 24 years.  Mr. Sam didn’t understand much about musicians, except that, from time to time, he prosecuted them for rowdy conduct.  Steve's dad was very supportive of his playing music, though, and helped by getting him his first keyboard and amplifier.  Steve's mom, Maxine, stills holds down the fort there today – and probably can still hear the Beatles or the Monkees oozing from the walls from time to time.

Surviving high school, Steve started college life at NSU in Natchitoches, LA.  During his NSU tenure, he ended up with a degree in Botany.  From the “School of Hard Knocks”, he ended up with a degree in gigging.  He has used the latter degree and has been playing music ever since.  The Botany degree remains ever poised to leap off the shelf into action.  Yeah, right.

Following college, two great musicians, Anthony Robinson and Bill Conerly, joined Steve in “The Steve Wells Trio”.  They did a little northern tour in Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin.  After that, Steve played with “Rutabaga”, “Kris Michaels and Good Tymes”, “Billy Pendleton and Earth”, and “The Harmon Drew Group” before starting “Steve Wells Music” in 1982.  And here he is today, still plugging away and trying his best to play your favorite song.
